The 2018 Barbados Olympic Association’s Independence Invitational Games (BiiG) table tennis champion Marcus Smith started the defence of his title impressively with emphatic victories when the round robin exchanges started at the Table Tennis Centre, Nursery Drive, Monday night.

Losing finalist in last year’s tournament, Trevor Farley, also started well, but Smith was so dominant that he didn’t drop a game.

Playing in Group 1, the right-handed champion beat Micah Blair 11-2, 11-4, 11-2 and veteran Paul Thorpe 11-4, 11-6, 11-8.

Farley, competing in Group 2, took out Dale Rudder 6-11, 11-6, 13-11, 13-11 to avenge his defeat in the Veteran’s leg of the national championships last weekend. (PH)
