A home helper who was fired won her case before the Employment Rights Tribunal (ERT) yesterday.
Sharada Walters took the National Assistance Board (NAB) before the ERT, which ruled that she was unfairly dismissed. But while she wanted reinstatement, the tribunal was not minded to grant that.
Instead, it ordered that the NAB pay Walters 26 weeks’ wages, which amounted to $13 094, and a further $7 554 based on her basic wage of $503.64 a week over six years.
The panel, which comprised chairman Christopher Blackman and members Edward Bushell and Ulric Sealy, said that neither during the hearings nor at case management did the panel observe any behaviour that assured it reinstatement or re-engagement would be a success. (AC)
