Association cautious about tests

Time is running out for motorists who drink and drive as the deadline for the introduction of breathalyser testing is less than two weeks away.

Testing is scheduled to start on January 1.

Minister of Transport and Works Dr William Duguid said while Barbados was playing catch-up to many other countries, the island was almost ready.

 He said last month that police officers would have the power to conduct tests on suspected drunk drivers. This was facilitated when Parliament passed an amendment to the Road Traffic Act in 2017. (CA)
