‘Cheese’ on top again

Victor Cheeseman has yet again extended his reign as champion horse trainer in Barbados.

Despite a three-way tie at the top with cousins Richard Deane and Liz Deane on 25 wins, Cheeseman, by virtue of his final earnings of $465.597, emerged champion.

It’s an unprecedented seventh consecutive trainer’s title for Cheeseman, the most decorated trainer at the Garrison Savannah in the last decade.

This latest feat by the 59-year-old, who lives next to the Val Gale Paddock in Paddock Road, eclipsed the old record of the late William C. Marshall. (LY)
