After the successful staging of Barbados’ first ever inter-house school sports at night last year, The St Michael School is preparing an encore.
Principal Dr Yvette Mayers told excited parents and students that the event, dubbed Glow Sports, will take place on February 7 at the Usain Bolt Complex and admission will be by ticket only.
Speaking at the school’s annual speech day and awards ceremony at the school in Martindales Road, The City, on Friday, Mayers said tickets were already going quickly.
She encouraged persons to get theirs as early as possible because numbers were limited and none will be distributed on the night.
The idea for the night event came about last year when the school could not stage its inter-house sports at the National Stadium at the time they wanted. An alternative venue was sought, and for the first time the event was held under the lights at Usain Bolt.
“We often say to our children that the society needs problem solvers, we must not be a problem for our society. And what happened last year at Glow Sports and what happened with the $20 Challenge, in itself is problem solving,” Mayers said.
“Find the problem, rather than complain all the time, find a solution. . . .We believe that education should hone the skills that the global society needs and values. Chief among these are problem-solving skills.
“Furthermore, our nation requires you to be creative, industrious and persistent,” she said. (SDB Media)
