Joseph, the movie produced by Barbadian film makers Step By Step Productions (SBS), is opening in 43 cinemas across West Africa this week.

Currently being screened in Barbados and enjoying rave reviews, Joseph, SBS’ seventh movie, will have its West African premiere at the Filmhouse Cinemas, Landmark Village, in Lagos, Nigeria, today, after which it will be released in cinemas across West Africa on Friday.

In addition to the Nollywood release, this film industry breakthrough is also evidenced by a major agreement between Step by Step Productions and AMC Theatres, the world’s largest movie chain.

“The selection of Joseph by the AMC Theatre Chain, also to be screened in select cinemas across the United States, is a ground-breaking achievement for an independent Caribbean film.  In addition, its selection for the largest black film festival in the USA, the Pan African Film Festival (PAFF) in LA, is also very noteworthy,” said Dave Weekes, a director of Step by Step Productions.

“Step By Step Productions has worked very hard to ‘up its game’ in film making with the intent of raising the profile of the Caribbean on the world stage,” he added.

Based in Leawood, Kansas in the USA, AMC has the largest share of the American theatre market, ahead of Cineworld and Cinemark Theatres and also owns Odeon Cinemas in Britain.

The company is listed on the New York Stock Exchange NYSE. (PR/SAT)
