In-form Kyle Mayers notched his second half-century of the match to put Barbados Pride in the ascendancy despite a fightback by Jamaica Scorpions on the second day of their third round Regional Four-Day Championship match in Jamaica yesterday.

The left-handed Mayers made 53 – the same score he had in the first innings – to left help Pride recover from a precarious second innings position of 58 for four to close the day on 179 for six and an overall lead of 260.

Shane Dowrich led the comeback for Barbados with a knock of 73 and teamed up with Mayers to add 112 for the fifth wicket after the hosts dominated the first half of the day at Sabina Park.

Pride were under pressure after fast bowler Nicholson Gordon cheaply removed openers Kraigg Brathwaite (1) and Shayne Moseley (19) and also added the scalp of Shamarh Brooks (5). (HG)
