Oval outfield not up to mark

The outfield at Kensington Oval has been given the thumbs-down by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

ICC match referee Jeff Crowe, who oversaw the first two One-Day Internationals between West Indies and Ireland at Kensington Oval a few weeks ago, has given the outfield an average rating, which is “a hair’s breadth away from a demerit point”.

Crowe, a former New Zealand captain, submitted his finding to the ICC based on inspections of the ground for the two One-Day Internationals which were played on January 7 and 9.

CWI chief executive officer Johnny Grave told the Weekend Nation that Crowe, in his report rated the pitch for both matches as good, but had concerns about the outfield. (MK)
