THE RULING Barbados Labour Party (BLP) has been accused of hypocrisy and trying to hang onto the coat-tails of former Democratic Labour Party (DLP) leader and National Hero Errol Barrow.
The charge came yesterday from former senator Jepter Ince, who said today’s BLP was now seeking to praise the island’s first prime minister when the party rejected everything Barrow stood for as far back as Independence in 1966.
Ince, who was defeated in St George North in the last general election, was speaking at a DLP Christ Church zonal meeting, held under the theme A Cry Of The People, at Deighton Griffith Secondary School in Kingsland.
“They run around this country and want to speak about Errol Barrow. They never appreciated Barrow from 1966 till now. Every initiative taken by the DLP was rejected by the Barbados Labour Party,” Ince declared.
He made reference to Barbados’ Independence, free secondary school education, the school meals programme and the National Insurance Scheme during the meeting, which was a continuation of the party’s celebration of Barrow’s centennial.
