Foundation’s double strike

The Christ Church Foundation School created volleyball history when the Massy Stores Schools’ League finals climaxed on Monday at the Wildey Gymnasium.

Playing in front of a large crowd of supporting students and family, Foundation won their first Under-19 girls’ title and then the boys repeated to give the school their first double crown in that age group.

Coach Fernando Skeete said the school’s sixth form status was key in their historic achievement.

“In previous years, we would train volleyballers to a particular skill level, but lose them as they pursued a higher level of education and we would often lose to BCC [Barbados Community College],” he said. “Becoming a sixth form institution helped us to not only keep many of our players but we also attracted players from other schools.” (KB)
