Bid to bring more accurate forecasts

The Barbados Meteorological Office is preparing to join a global initiative to bring more accurate weather information in a format that is easier to understand.

The World Meteorological Organisation is pushing impact-based forecasting – a move from merely reporting what the weather was going to be, to what impact the weather was going to have.

It is a process in which data is collected and integrated to predict the impact of impending disasters on vulnerable people living in areas that are prone to such disasters.

During the launch of the Barbados Climate Outlook Newsletter at the Civil Aviation Building, Charnocks, Christ Church Friday, the Met Office’s acting Director Sabu Best said this would be a great step forward. (CA)
