Heartbroken and discouraged.

This is the reaction from some of the island’s top junior athletes following the cancellation of the Barbados Secondary Schools’ Athletics Championships (BSSAC) due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Organisers of the meet were forced to pull the plug on inter-school sports following the announcement on Tuesday that Barbados had recorded two cases of the deadly virus.

Large gatherings exceeding 100 people are now prohibited as the total cases stand at five. The BSSAC finals were scheduled for yesterday at the National Stadium. (AGB)
