Adopt A Family fund at $1/2m mark

Barbados’ Adopt A Family programme has brought in a half-million dollars.

It’s expected that number could increase in the coming weeks, said Acting Prime Minister Santia Bradshaw during a press conference yesterday from Ilaro Court.

The programme was touted three weeks ago by substantive Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, who urged Barbadians earning more than $100 000 annually to give generously to a special bank account aimed at helping Barbadians below the poverty line.

“We have had some very positive response to the programme. While there are persons in society grappling with their own financial circumstances, ordinary Barbadians and business have been quite receptive,” said Bradshaw. (BA)
