General manager of the National Conservation Commission (NCC), Ryan Als, has advised the public to use beaches where lifeguards are stationed.
In a press release on May 7, Als said public safety remains paramount and urged beachgoers to follow the instructions given by the lifeguards; to wear face masks for onshore activities; and observe physical distancing protocols.
These measures are being taken to protect the public and lifeguards against contracting novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the statement said.
NCC’s Special Projects Officer, Ricardo Marshall, provided the list of beaches currently supervised by lifeguards.
They are: Crane Beach, St Philip; Enterprise, Maxwell, Dover and Rockley Beaches in Christ Church; Graves’ End/Needhams Point, Browne’s Beach North, Browne’s Beach South, Brandons Beach and Batts Rock in St Michael; Folkestone Beach, St James; Bathsheba, St Joseph; and Bath Beach, St John.
Government allowed access to beaches from May 4 between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. Beach access was previously restricted under protocols to limit the spread of COVID-19. (BGIS)
