Police are appealing to members of the public for information on a fatal accident which occurred at Coral Ridge Road, Christ Church, earlier today.
Eighteen-year-old Britney Griffith of nearby Frere Pilgrim was identified as the female who died in the accident.
She was a passenger in the vehicle.
Police have not released the identity of the 23-year-old male driver.
Public relations officer, acting inspector Rodney Inniss, told the media the initial report around 4:45 p.m. said two or three vehicles were involved in the accident, but when officers from the Boarded Hall station arrived, they found only one on the scene.
Both occupants were lying on the ground and the ambulance service was summoned. Griffith was pronounced dead on the scene and the driver was taken for private medical treatment by his family members.
“All of the usual investigative protocols are in place. We, as usual, appeal to the public. Anyone who would have seen what transpired or the circumstances of this collision that would have caused one life can contact the Boarded Hall police station at 437-4311 or any police station,” Inniss said.
He added: “Just yesterday we were speaking about the reduction of accidents on our roads and to be confronted by this is pretty sad.”
Family and friends were on the scene and some burst into tears when the identity was confirmed.
Police investigations are continuing. (PR/SAT)
Editor’s note: Corrects story to indicate the woman was a passenger and not the sole occupant of the vehicle.
