Davis Cup home tie still on

Team Barbados is still optimistic about returning to World Group 1 in the Davis Cup.

With the International Tennis Federation (ITF) proposing a July 21 resumption date for competition amid the coronavirus outbreak, national head coach Damien Applewhaite believes the team of baseliner Darian King, Haydn Lewis, Stephen Slocombe, and Kaipo Marshall will be up for the challenge.

Barbados are slated to take on Indonesia in a home tie at the National Tennis Centre in September, having suffered a 4-0 trashing from Norway back in March.

“The date is still on. Our key players haven’t hit balls in the last two months but we do have a nice three-month period to get them up and running. I am confident that the players will reach back a certain level of playing proficiency by then,” Applwhaite said. (AGB)
