UPDATE: Man charged with murder

Police have charged Michael Brathwaite 48, of Storey Gap, Codrington Hill, St Michael, that between May 22 and May 24, 2020, he murdered Roland Francis.

A media statement from police on May 29 said that on Friday, May 22, the accused and the victim Francis, 65, of Bank Hall, Main Road, St Michael, went to Bridgetown in the morning, where they had a confrontation.

“Later that night, about 7 p.m., the accused saw the victim at Suttle Street, Bridgetown, where he approached the victim and struck him about the head with his hands. The victim fell to the ground, striking his head in the process,” the statement said.

The victim was transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) by ambulance. On Saturday, May 23, police were informed of the victim’s status at the QEH. The accused was taken into custody. Francis succumbed to the injuries on Sunday May, 24 at the High Dependency Unit of the QEH.

After further investigations, Brathwaite was charged on Thursday, May 28. He appeared at the Bridgetown Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Douglas Frederick where he was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison Dodds until June 25, 2020. (PR)
