UPDATE: BWA pumping stations online

The Barbados Water Authority (BWA) pumping stations “affected by electrical issues, as well as those at which pumping had to be stopped because of low levels, are fully back online and moving water into the distribution network” from May 31.

BWA, in a statement today, also said emergency repairs to the 16-inch burst main in St James were completed in the early hours of May 31 and the water turned back on. Pumping from the Ionics Desalination Plant was also resumed. BWA said it continues to closely monitor this main, which had a number of breaks recently.

The statement reminded customers that it may take time for the supply to return to normal in all of the areas recently affected.

BWA said, however, it “is still not in a position to provide a consistent pipe-borne water supply to those districts at the higher elevations in St Joseph and St Andrew but remains committed to assisting these residents via the community tanks and water tankers as a temporary measure”.

All of the BWA’s tankers have been pressed into service and the tanker crews continue to assist residents of all affected areas.

BWA apologises for any inconvenience these service disruptions have caused and would like to thank customers for their patience. (PR)
