The family of seven who lost their home to a fire on Tuesday have somewhere to live thanks to the surrounding community.

The home of Nira Daniel, her partner Ricardo Estwick and five children at Hutchinson Drive, Silver Sands, Christ Church, was destroyed by fire which started in one of the bedrooms after two of the children were reportedly playing with a lighter.

On Wednesday morning, thanks to the efforts of the Silver Sands community and the Sons of God Apostolic Spiritual Baptist Church, the family was rehoused.

A Nation team caught up with Daniel, who did not want to be photographed, at their new home in nearby Ealing Grove. She was receiving assistance from several people who brought food, clothing and other essentials for the family.

“I feel a lot better than I did before, I’m still here holding on and thanking God I still here,” said the pregnant woman.

The home, which was owned by Estwick’s mother Gloria Ashby, was uninsured. (TG/SAT)
