The Royal Barbados Police Force destroyed more than $12 million worth of illegal drugs today.

Acting Superintendent Elliott Bovell said these substances were collected over the course of five years (2015 to 2020).

Some of the drugs were seized from people at the Port of Bridgetown, the Grantley Adams International Airport and go-fast boat operators trying to smuggle drugs into the country.

About 2 635 kilograms of cannabis valued at $10 500 000 and 50 kilograms of cocaine valued at $2 500 000 were destroyed.

About 13 625 marijuana plants found in parishes including St Lucy, St Joseph, St James, St Thomas and St Peter were also burnt. They were confiscated between 2017 and 2020.

Bovell said all the cases were adjudicated either in the Magistrates’ Courts or the High Court. (SB)
