No Joe Root, advantage Windies.

Leader of the West Indies’ four-pronged bowling attack Kemar Roach says the absence of the England skipper could tilt the opening Test in favour of Jason Holder’s men ahead of the first-ever bio-secure series starting on Wednesday at the Ageas Bowl.

Roach, who has 193 Test scalps, seven away from the 200-wicket mark, is confident the West Indies can pose a serious threat to England’s batting line-up with Root missing out.

England will also be without wicket-keeper batsman Jonny Bairstow and off-spinner Moeen Ali, who were left out of a 13-man squad for the three Tests.

“A Test match without Root, the fantastic stats he has is going to be a bit of an advantage for us. (AG-B)
