A high level of optimism surrounds the West Indies camp as they look to end a 32-year wait to win a Test cricket series in England.

Ahead of the first-ever biosecure series set to begin tomorrow at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton, paving the way for international cricket to resume in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, head coach Phil Simmons said his team is confident of victory and retaining the Wisden Trophy on English soil.

“We definitely have the belief. I think that the attitude that I have seen, especially today in training, it shows me that the guys have the belief that we can win the series here,” Simmons (left) told a live Zoom press conference yesterday morning.

“I think the Test match in Leeds on the last tour has come up quite a few times and it just reminds the guys that we are able to win Test matches here and therefore that helps in the belief that we can win the series,” he added.

Simmons said the key factor for Jason Holder’s side is to play proper cricket in all three facets of the game. (AG-B)
