President of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP), Verla De Peiza, has said Prime Minister Mia Mottley and Attorney General Dale Marshall should apologise for the way they handled the appointment of a second deputy commissioner of police.

In a statement yesterday, the DLP’s president charged that Government’s quiet introduction in the House of Assembly of the amendment to change the law was a clear move away from the previous position.

“The Democratic Labour Party is vindicated in the stance it held on behalf of the people of Barbados,” De Peiza said.

“Our laws are not to be flouted at will. Further, the party holds the view that the Prime Minister of Barbados, the Attorney General and Ambassador Elizabeth Thompson owe the entire country an apology for misleading the country on this issue, whether by intention or inadvertently.”
