Unemployed and with a daughter who needed “to live and go to school”, Leopold Alexander Scantlebury said he “took a chance” and robbed the Sol Redman’s Village gas station.
However, after escaping the scene, the vehicle he was in had to turn back because he realised he had forgotten the haversack with the money in the track where he waited.
This was what Scantlebury told police when they held him for the armed burglary of the gas station five years ago.
Yesterday, Scantlebury, now 35, of Orange Hill, St James, pleaded guilty, via Zoom in the No. 2 Supreme Court, to entering the St Thomas gas station on September 8, 2015, and stealing $1 804, belonging to Karrie Maycock & Company Ltd while armed with a firearm. (HLE)
