Alliance Owners of Public Transport (AOPT) communications and marketing officer Mark A. Haynes says unless more attention is paid to security on public service vehicles, violent attacks will keep reoccurring.

The marketing officer was responding to an incident in which a Dash Valley, St George PSV operator was stabbed and robbed on Monday evening.

mark-haynes“We have to meet with all stakeholders to deal with this matter before it gets out of hand. I’m saying it will be replicated unless this situation is dealt with in an expeditious manner so I want to meet with the authorities to ensure it can be mitigated,” he said.

Unofficial information indicated that the man, only known so far as “Joe”, was at the end of his route when a man dressed in black attacked him, stabbing him multiple times and breaking the vehicle’s windscreen, before robbing him of an undisclosed sum of money. “Joe” is currently in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, but this condition is unknown.
