Despite the uncertainty and disruptions which were a hallmark of the lead-up to the 2020 Barbados Secondary Schools’ Entrance Exams, Minister of Education Santia Bradshaw is adamant that the COVID-19 pandemic had little bearing on this year’s results.

Delivering an analysis of the results during a press conference held in the conference room of her ministry’s headquarters yesterday, Bradshaw said the results of the exam, commonly referred to as 11-plus or Common Entrance, were in keeping with trends of the last three years.

She said that the infusion of technology and technological devices within the classrooms, occasioned by the covid-19 pandemic, enhanced the traditional form of exam preparation.

“The results are not much different from what it was for the last three years. We haven’t seen a drastic difference in the scores. We have always known that we would have some challenges, and the ministry has been taking steps to ensure that in both English and Maths that teachers are retooled to deliver instructions in more interesting ways. This was therefore in keeping with our push towards the use of technology,” she said. (CLM)
