Thorne and Howell are Chevening scholars

Barbadians Toni Thorne and Danielle Howell are the recipients of the 2020 Chevening Scholarships.

The winners for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean were officially announced Thursday by the British High Commission Bridgetown.

Thorne and Howell join seven other awardees across the region from Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines.

British High Commissioner to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Janet Douglas, was once again pleased to see the number of scholarships awarded to the region this year.

“I am heartened to see that Barbados and the islands of the Eastern Caribbean have produced nine more outstanding Chevening scholars this year, replicating the same level of success from 2019,” she said.

“The UK remains committed to providing top-ranked educational opportunities for future leaders across the Eastern Caribbean. If you are thinking about applying for a prestigious Chevening Scholarship, I strongly encourage you to grasp the opportunity to do so when applications open in early September.”

Thorne will be pursuing an MBA in Business Administration at University of Cambridge with The Cambridge Commonwealth, European & International Trust while Howell will be pursuing an MSc in Coastal and Marine Resource Management at University of Portsmouth.

The other successful applicants are:

A’Shante O’Keiffe (Antigua and Barbuda) pursuing an MSc in Education at University of Edinburgh. 

Loretta Benjamin (Antigua and Barbuda) pursuing an MSc in Strategic Management of Projects at UCL (University College London). 

Simone Dias (Antigua and Barbuda) pursuing an MSc in Urban Regeneration and Development at University of Manchester.

Naomi Matthew (Dominica) pursuing an MSc in Development Economics at University of Nottingham.

Olvine Holas (Grenada) pursuing an MSc in International Business and Emerging Markets University of Edinburgh.

Keryn Nelson (St Lucia) pursuing an MSc in Media Communication and Development at London School of Economics and Political Science.

Franz George (St Vincent and the Grenadines) pursuing an MSc in Industrial/Organisational and Business Psychology at UCL (University College London). 

Applications for 2021 to 2022 Chevening Scholarships will officially open on 3 September and close on November 3, 2020. Interested persons will be able to apply at www.chevening.org/apply.  (PR/SAT)
