A representative of one of Barbados’ leading human resources consulting firms has flagged staff disengagement as an issue that employers need to monitor and remedy.

Caribbean Catalyst Inc. director Jacqueline Elias also highlighted inadequate leadership, the presence of opportunistic team members and reduced productivity, as other things that should be on the to-do list of organisations.

She said this as TD Reinsurance (Barbados) Inc. (small category) and Brookfield International Bank Inc. (medium category) were announced as winners of their categories in the 2020 Barbados Best Employers (BBE) programme.

The awards were presented yesterday during a ceremony at Cooperators’ General Insurance Training Room, Collymore Rock, St Michael, which saw Mika Inc. (trading as Walker’s World) winning the inaugural Most Improved prize.

Elias said when the employee engagement trends were measured against the last BBE programme in 2018, “there was a decline in all categories, including the finalists”.  (SC)
