Nelson protest planned for today

Protesters will remind the public today about their disapproval of the Lord Nelson statue, which still stands in Heroes Square.

However, general secretary of the Caribbean Movement for Peace and Integration, David Denny, said he hoped it would be the last time they have to speak out against the monument of the British naval captain in the capital city.

Although Government announced that the statue was to be moved during the Season of Emancipation, which ends on August 23, Denny hinted he was not convinced that would happen.

Government yesterday confirmed that the moving of the statue had been rescheduled. An announcement will be made shortly on a new schedule, said Minister with responsibility for Culture, John King. (TG)
