A shy ten-year-old girl stole the spotlight on the penultimate day of the scaled-down Barbados Hockey Festival at the Wildey Astroturf yesterday.

Gia Greenidge, who runs in the 100 and 200 metres for Luther Thorne Primary, delivered a late second-half goal that sealed the deal for A Badd Connection (ABC) over Du Badd Crew (DBC) in the mixed competition.

Watched by her grandmother, Maple stalwart Hazel Barker-Dyall, Greenidge hit past goalkeeper Tyrese Weekes in the 36th minute to provide ABC with a 2-0 victory. National player Laurando Davis opened the scoring in the seventh minute.

In the men’s competition, there are just three teams, with ABC and Island Hockey qualifying for today’s 5 p.m. final. (MK)
