The Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training says everything is in place for meetings with teachers and Minister of Education, Santia Bradshaw, this week.
During a site visit Monday morning at the Wildey Gymnasium in St Michael, officials from the Ministry and Gymnasium staff made sure the venue was ready for the first consultation with secondary school teachers on Tuesday, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
In accordance with COVID-19 protocols, staff made sure the seats on the main floor were distanced three feet apart. Additionally, the seats in the stands were marked to observe physical distancing rules. People utilising the stands are asked to sit only in the seats which have markers.
Sanitisation stations are set up at the entrance (nearest to the tennis courts) of the Gymnasium and there will be temperature checks. A projection screen will be in place and microphones will be strategically located for persons to pose questions.
Also attending tomorrow’s meeting will be Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, Cynthia Forde; Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Dwight Sutherland; and Director of the COVID-19 Monitoring Unit, Ronald Chapman.
Bradshaw is expected to meet with primary school teachers on Wednesday, at the Wildey Gymnasium, also at 9:30 a.m. It is anticipated that over 1 000 teachers from primary and secondary schools will attend the consultations on both days. The Gymnasium has the capacity to seat over 1 500 persons.
A site visit was also held at the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology (SJPI) today. On Friday, the Education Minister will meet with nursery school teachers from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and special schools’ teachers from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the SJPI. There are 96 nursery school teachers and 45 special schools’ teachers. All sessions are closed to the media. (BGIS)
