Motorists should expect the newly installed traffic lights at the Westmoreland St James junction to be fully functioning by weekend.
Minister of Transport, Works and Water Resources Ian Gooding-Edghill gave that update yesterday when he announced that the lights would be on “flashing signal mode” from today.
“The lights will be energised . . . and the flashing signals to alter motorists will commence [today]. They will run for about three days and certainly by Friday, the weekend, the lights will be fully operational. That’s an area that people were not familiar with traffic so you have to be careful nonetheless,” he said yesterday.
There have been numerous serious accidents and some road fatalities at the junction along the Ronald Mapp Highway, the most recent being in 2017.
Following repeated requests from residents, ministry officials started installation of the traffic lights which were expected to be operational by mid-July. (TG)
