Barbadian rower Philip Als will attempt a feat no one has before.
While some have attempted the Arctic’s infamous Northwestern Passage by ship, he will try to make history as the first to row the passage to join the UK lead Ocean Expedition next year.
Als is no stranger to such events as he and Randal Valdez established a Guiness World Record in 2003 when they sailed across the Atlantic.
The Northwest Passage is considered one of the most challenging, as only a small number of ships have been able to complete it successfully.
With it being the first time the expedition is attempted by rowing boats, Als was open to the experience, as he perceives it to be a once in a lifetime opportunity.
The expedition will be led by Leven Brown, who is known to be one of the greatest rowers and skippers of the 21st century after gaining five Guinness World Records.
Over the years, Brown has gained a relationship with the Barbadian rowing community as he finished four of his mid-Atlantic expeditions from Gran Canaria on the island. (PR/RG)
