More women are being diagnosed with breast cancer, but fortunately most of the cases are being caught at early stages.
Medical coordinator at Barbados Cancer Society’s Breast Screening Programme (BSP), Dr Shirley Jhagroo, said with there being more awareness and more people getting tested, this was expected.
“Breast cancer unfortunately remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer amongst women in Barbados and is the most common cause of death from cancer amongst Barbadian women.
“At the BSP from June 2019 to June 2020, there were 65 positive cases compared with 52 the previous year, but most cases were stages 0 to 1,” Jhagroo said. (TSG)
