Government is taking steps to ensure that Speightstown, St Peter, and surrounding areas never again experience the level of flooding they have over the years.
The latest occurrence was last weekend when houses and businesses were damaged and at least one person had to be rescued.
During a tour yesterday with St Peter Member of Parliament Colin Jordan, Minister of Water Resources Ian Gooding-Edghill outlined the pending measures. He was at the time in Sailor Gully, a major watercourse east of Speightstown.
“We visited this area four weeks ago and we looked at water flow because we are acutely aware of what we have to do, especially in getting water into the aquifer. We have agreed we will raise the dam here by about three feet. We also intend to add some additional gabion work and create a crossfall. (CA)
