More deaths from viral illness

Georgetown – The death toll in Guyana from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) climbed to 78 on Sunday after two patients died earlier during the day.

The Ministry of Health said that two women, ages 55 and 45 died while receiving care at a medical facility. Both women are from Region Four.

Their deaths follow that of two men who died from the disease on Saturday night.

The authorities said that a 36 -year-old and a 45-year-old man died while receiving care at a medical facility. They were also from Region 4.

Guyana has recorded 37 deaths so far in September.

Meanwhile, Jamaica has recorded an additional death related to COVID-19 and 163 new cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the COVID-19 death toll to 89 and the number of confirmed cases to 6 017.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness said the deceased is a 69-year-old woman from St Ann and that six deaths remain under investigation.

Of the newly confirmed cases there were 83 males and 76 females with ages ranging from four to 94 years. There were also 61 recoveries bringing the total number of recovered cases to 1 706. (CMC)
