More than 3 000 public servants are to be appointed effective tomorrow.

If the Public Service (Appointments) Bill 2020 debated in the House of Assembly yesterday passes both Houses of Parliament it is estimated that as many as 3 100 Government employees could see an end to their long-standing “Hollywood” operation, and be confirmed in permanent positions effective October 1.

There were 1 900 temporary and 1 200 permanent.

Attorney General Dale Marshall led off debate on the Bill which seeks to alter the Constitution to make provision for the appointment or promotion of persons who have been temporarily employed or acting in a post in the public service for a period of three years or more on the date immediately preceding October 1, 2020.

It also makes provision for the establishment of unestablished posts in which a public officer would have been acting for three years or more on the date immediately preceding October 1. (GC)
