G4S ultimatum

Management of G4S Secure Solutions has until Friday to present a wage proposal to staff and their representatives.

If that deadline is not met, another strike could be looming, says president of the G4S division of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU), Ormond Mayers.

He was speaking yesterday evening after a four-hour meeting with staff, G4S’ Trinidad-based managing director James Devers, BWU consultant Sir Roy Trotman and acting Chief Labour Officer Claudette Hope-Greenidge at the Warrens Office Complex in St Michael.

That meeting was called after more than 150 frustrated security officers staged industrial action at G4S’ Brighton, St Michael headquarters earlier in the day, where they protested against new hires, lack of vacation, unsatisfactory working conditions and a wage freeze, which Mayers said began in 2014.
