Adara Stoddard came within touching distance of breaking a ten-year-old swimming record on Wednesday night but had to settle for just the gold medal as the Barbados Aquatic Sports Association’s Short Course National Swimming Championships continued at the Aquatic Centre, Wildey.

Stoddard won the Girls’ 13-14 200 metres freestyle in a time of 2:08.77 minutes, agonisingly close to the record time set in 2010 by Zabrina Holder of 2:08.31 minutes.

She beat out Pirates clubmates Adia Deane, who was second in 2:12.46 minutes and Katie Ford who was third in 2:14.27 minutes.

On Tuesday’s opening night, Stoddard was also victorious in the 100 metres Individual Medley (IM) with a time of 1:07.55 minutes, and the gruelling 800 metres freestyle in 9:22.68 minutes. (NM)
