Yesterday about 100 former employees of three South Coast hotels – Hilton Barbados Resort, Savannah Beach Hotel and Accra Beach Hotel – demonstrated outside the latter’s Rockley, Christ Church property from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Some of the workers said they were appalled by the Prime Minister’s comments during her national address at the Independence Day Parade on Monday.

During her speech, Mottley called on employees to “recognise that sometimes it is not the loudest voice or the easiest way to make a spectacle that brings on (reflects on) to yourself, to the community or the country”.

She added: “There is no need to shout . . . even if somebody starts to do us wrong . . . . There are ways of dealing with these matters and we know how to do it and we can do it without undermining the confidence that those who may be watching us from outside have in us literally, because they see all of these examples of what they view as wildcat action taking place in this nation.” (SB)
