No hustle and bustle in The City

Stores in Bridgetown opened their doors yesterday for Sunday Christmas shopping, but the expected crowds did not stream through City streets.

When a DAILY NATION team took to The City, Broad Street was a virtual ghost town. Cave Shepherd and C.S. Pharmacy were open, but there were not a lot of shoppers passing through the doors.

Over on St Michael’s Row, there was a line of shoppers waiting to get into SAS and, over at Big Tang, manager Shirnell Thompson said she was anticipating the crowds heading into the holiday season.

“I guess the shoppers are trying to enjoy the Christmas since the year was a very hard year. This is the second Sunday we are opening. Compared to last week, today is much better. We opened much later (in the month) last year, but I guess because we opened earlier this year, we’re seeing many more customers. My boss didn’t send a lot of Christmas decorations this year, I guess because he didn’t know how it would be, but the Christmas decorations as we get them are going ’long,” she said. (RA)
