Coleridge and Parry’s Kamari Johnson gave the northern school an early Christmas gift yesterday on the first day of the inaugural Rivaldo Leacock Championships at The Lester Vaughan School, Cane Garden, St Thomas.

The 13-year-old from Date Tree Hill, St Peter produced a stunning display to secure victory in the Under-15 boys’ 800 metres at the championships which feature athletes from The Alleyne School, St George Secondary School and the hosts.

After a pedestrian opening lap, he sent spectators in a frenzy with a late surge to zoom pass three competitors and clock 2:17.34 minutes.

Keshawn Griffith (2:18.23), also of CP, grabbed the silver medal and Lester Vaughan’s Ke-mani Maynard crossed the line in 2:20.01 minutes to take third position.

Zoe Thomas added more points for CP with a comfortable win in the Under-15 girls 800-metre. (AGB)
