The Barbados Employers’ Confederation (BEC) has advised its membership that workers who are unable to fulfil their duties because they may be self-quarantined and awaiting secondary COVID-19 test results are eligible for sick leave and pay entitlements under the law.
Executive director Sheena Mayers-Granville told the DAILY NATION yesterday that the BEC made this clear in a circular disseminated last week.
The advice was given after Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley had indicated that some employees identified through contact tracing and who had an initial negative result, might be required to be retested after five days and until a second negative result was received, they were required to self-quarantine.
In the past two weeks since Government discovered four clusters of COVID-19 cases which had led a surge in infections, several businesses have been affected by tested staff having to stay away from the workplace. Some also closed because numerous workers had tested positive for the virus.
