Dust, traffic blues on West Coast

Residents and business people continue to provide mixed reactions to the ongoing extensive roadworks along the West Coast which form part of the Highway 1 rehabilitation project.

A store owner in the Sunset Crest mall in St James, who requested anonymity, said the roadworks, on top of the COVID-19 pandemic, had brought business to a crawl.

“December was good, but since that news broke with a cluster along the West Coast, people have gone back into their shells and that is compounded by the work,” he said, adding most of the parked cars outside belonged to staff.

The owner said the work was progressing slowly, and while he appreciated the effort, he had a couple concerns. (SB)
