EDNA LEWIS has been described as “a true patriot and stalwart” by Governor General Dame Sandra Mason.

She celebrated her 100th birthday at her Westmoreland, St James home yesterday surrounded by generations of her family, with Skype calls from the Governor General and relatives in Barbados and abroad.

On the day that Dame Sandra also celebrated her 72nd birthday, she extended thanks to Lewis and her generation for the wisdom they have imparted and for their contribution to Barbados.

Speaking from Government House, the Governor General encouraged Barbados’ seniors to follow Lewis’ example and teach the young people “the value of sacrifice, respect and the value of understanding”. (GC)
