Wickham: No attempt to offend Rastas

Talk show host Peter Wickham says all Rastafarians were not the target of his comments on their stance on the COVID-19 vaccine.

His row with the Rastas began on Starcom Network’s Down To Brass Tacks call-in programme last week when he stated: “If the Rastafarians believe they are better off not taking it, then they stay up in the hills and smoke their herb and stay away from society.”

Subsequently, in a video which went viral, two members of the Rastafarian community, Calvin Bongo Lights Chase and Lumumba Batson, issued a stinging rebuke, including some comments about Wickham’s sexuality.

Yesterday, on the call-in programme, Wickham said he was speaking directly in response to comments made by the Rastafarian Progressive Movement (RPM) to another news outlet, and to spokesperson for the Ichirouganaim Council of Rastafari (ICAR), Peter Adonijah Alleyne, and head of the African Heritage Foundation, Paul Ras Simba Rock, who had told the Nation about their apprehension to any vaccine.
