The start of the 2020 personal income tax filing season is approaching and the Barbados Revenue Authority is encouraging people to check the third party information uploaded on their behalf.

According to Erica Lazare, communication officer at the revenue collection agency, now is the time for people to check the accuracy of the information in their TAMIS account as it will directly impact their tax return when filing opens.

“It is important that persons check that information has been indeed uploaded and that the figures are accurate, as this is what will be pre-loaded in the tax return,” she explained in a media statement today.

“This third-party information is made up of items like your employment income, pension and tax deducted, as well as your charity donations, trade union dues, goods and services income from contracted work and NIS benefits such as maternity and unemployment.”

Lazare also said that to access this information, clients should log into their TAMIS account, and follow three steps.

“First, click the Account tab to select the third-party Information option from the drop-down list, then select the year 2020 and click Search. Once this is done, all 2020 third-party information that has been uploaded for the taxpayer will be shown in their account,” she said.

“After reviewing the list, if any information is missing or incorrect, the taxpayer should contact the party responsible for uploading it. Examples of these entities include the taxpayer’s employer, church, union or affiliated charity, to alert them to make the necessary correction.”

Additionally, taxpayers should go to the Update Details tab in their TAMIS account if they have changed their address, contact or banking information. (PR)
