Barbados cruised to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Turks and Caicos yesterday in their first international warm-up match ahead of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers starting on March 25 in the Dominican Republic.

Captain Rashad Jules broke the deadlock in the 21st minute from a free kick before former national Under-17 skipper Roshon “Speedy” Gittens secured the win with a 59th minute goal on his senior team debut.

It’s just the start head coach Russell Latapy wanted prior to the opening game against the No. 78-ranked Panama next Thursday.

In a post-match interview, Latapy told Saturday Sport that he was pleased with the team’s performance but there is room for improvement. (AG-B)
