The organising committee of the 2021 CARIFTA Games has revealed stringent COVID-19 measures ahead of the track and field event to be held in Bermuda from August 13 to 15.
The new directives were revealed by president of the Bermuda National Athletics Association (BNAA) Donna Raynor, during the Athletic Association of Barbados’ (AAB) stakeholders’ webinar on Saturday evening.
“We are looking to host a very safe event with all protocols in place,” she said. “The newly agreed upon dates give us more time to prepare and hopefully we have a better handle on COVID-19 by then.
“I think vaccination is going to play a crucial role as well. We recognise that this is not going to be an easy task. We have several hurdles to overcome but I am confident in my team that we can work together to make sure the Games happen,” Raynor declared.
All attendees must present a negative COVID-19 PCR test, taken no more than three days before their arrival. While athletes are encouraged to be vaccinated, it is not a requirement for the Games or for entry into Bermuda. (NM)
