Former Chief Justice Sir David Simmons has urged trade unions to help develop policy for the work-at-home era created by the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said COVID-19 had radically transformed the workplace, turning offices into empty rooms and homes into offices.
Sir David was delivering the feature address at the National Union of Public Workers’ 76th annual conference, which was held via Zoom on Thursday under the theme: Trade Union Resilience In The Midst Of The COVID-19 Pandemic.
“Accordingly, there must be sensitive adaptation of the workforce in order to provide a safe and effective response to the needs of the workers. This requires careful planning of the way in which work is organised,” he said. (MB)
